I HAVE more than one now!, August 19, 2014

I am finally updating this review after owning more than one of these bags for more than a year.

I cannot say enough good things about this bag!

There is only one fault – I still believe the only fault in the original design is that there is no dedicated key fob inside. I have tried many permutations of attachments for my keys since this first review (with photos of the modification) and have yet to figure out a way to carry all of my keys without them falling to the bottom of the bag or totally getting in the way at the top. I realize that this is an issue only because I carry lots of keys on different carabiners rather than it being a true fault of the bag, though! Don’t let my one complaint deter you, though.

Key issue aside, I truly believe this to be my bag soulmate. I have been carrying a black one now for over six months as my daily carry bag to my new office job and there is never a day that goes by that I can’t fit everything I need to take to work – except my lunch and my laptop – in this bag. I tend to be a person who carries lots of devices, cords, toiletries, and, obviously, keys, in my bag. Even carrying two or three devices and all of my other stuff, I can still fit a couple of snack bars, gloves, a knit cap, or anything else my heart desires into this bag without it looking overstuffed or not zipping.

The zippers have given me no trouble and that little outside zipper pocket which is hidden under the flap has been incredibly useful for carrying things to which I need quick access like lipgloss or money for tolls. It has also been helpful for carrying my ID and boarding pass when I have flown. I have pretty large hands, and I can still reach inside that pocket and get to the bottom of it to find things. So there has never been a need for me to unbutton the flap in all this time that I have owned this purse.

Having carried the red bag in the black bag almost exclusively, and having purchased the blue bag last year sometime, I have now actually started lending and giving away this bag to other women because I know it is so fabulous and I want them to try it. Currently, my best friend has borrowed my red one (I am about ready to buy her a black one so I can get my red one back!), and I my boss from my previous job my practically-new blue one with the polka dot lining. I hardly ever used it because I rarely wear blue. Of course, I am using these “acts of good will” as an excuse to buy more and different colors of this bag for myself!

Two of the bags I have had were with the 2014 polkadot lining. At first, I did not like that lining but it really grew on me. The light color made it very easy to see into the bag and find things that had gone to the bottom. (Though to be honest, because of the multitude of pockets in this bag items rarely do fall all the way to the bottom. Except keys.)

The 2015 lining, which is a very pretty black and white chevron pattern, makes it a little harder to see into the bag. However, the black purse with the black-and-white lining looks really classy!

That is about all I can think of to update. I hope that you will read the other positive reviews and realize that they outweigh the negative ones. This is a sturdy, useful, nice-looking bag. I hope now to gather enough versions and colors of it that I have one for the rest of my life!

    *********
    Original review follows:

I wish the manufacturer had more pictures of this bag on this product page. I have posted some, and of the modification I did to it. I bought it based mostly on the good reviews rather than knowing at all what the inside of it was like. (I just saw today that other product pages for the same bag, different colors — OGIO International Brooklyn Purse Sling Bag — have more photos.)

Turns out, it might just be perfect for my needs. I’ve only had it one day, but so far, so good. It’s a great size, fairly lightweight even when stuffed to the gills, and the strap is not a bad length for me (I am 5 foot 4). I bought the red, and am seriously considering buying it in another color. I have spent years searching for “the perfect bag” and this… this might be it. (shivers!)

I am downsizing from a fantastic and well-loved Osprey FlapJill laptop bag that had basically become my go-to bag because every other smaller bag I have didn’t have enough pockets. Everything including my keys and phone would continually fall to the bottom of the bag, and that just made me mad. Since I no longer routinely carry a laptop around, I, like another reviewer, wanted a smaller bag that didn’t scream “I have electronics in here!” I am a woman who carries everything in her bag, too. Need a snack bar? I probably have it. Need…

I’m thrilled with this bag. I wanted something that would hold my iPad and other things without screaming that there’s an iPad inside, and please steal me. I prefer the cross body bags as opposed to an over the shoulder one. This one is perfect. I’m going to disagree with another user saying it’s not long enough. I’m a tall girl (5’9″) and curvy. This fits great! Right at hip level and doesn’t fall forward when I’m bending over. I have the Moko Slim iPad case, and my iPad2 fit in it just fine. It wasn’t difficult to get in, and to get out. It fit my oversized wallet, business card holder (which is thick), keys, pens, iPhone and iPod. It’s not stuffed. Also, the hidden pocket, is easily reached by going under the shorter side of the fabric, you really don’t need to undo all or any of the buttons to shove something in there.

The ONLY thing I would change, is to make it waterproof. I live in Oregon where it rains an awful lot and having all these electronics inside and not having it waterproof makes me a little wary. I’m going to toss some water repellent on it myself.

Fashion and Function!, May 7, 2016

A friend of mine has this purse (in blue) and she loves it. After talking to her about the different functionalities it has, I decided to order the OGIO Brooklyn Purse in Black. I have been using it daily for a few months now, because I wanted to really experience the functionality BEFORE I wrote the review. And all I can say, is as a busy mom, with an active family…I don’t go anywhere without it! As an added bonus, its super cute – so it’s fashion with function!

Fashion: The description says the OGIO Brooklyn Purse is black. I would call it charcoal. The strap, buttons and exterior purse is all charcoal (dark, blackish grey). The interior is black and a light grey (almost white) chevron like pattern. The outside zipper is black with a brushed silver zipper pull and a matching fabric color zipper pull on the end (which can easily be cut off if you don’t like it).

The outside top of the bag zipper pull and the bottom side of the bag both have the OGIO logo. Both logos are discrete enough they are barely noticeable. The middle compartment inside of the bag has a zipper and one of the internal sides of the bag also has a zipper pocket. Both internal zippers are black with black zipper pulls.

The fourth (and final) zipper is found if you unbutton the front panel of the bag (see three buttons on front of bag). When you unbotton the three buttons and lift the flap the under side of the flap is the same black/light grey chevron that is on the inside of the bag. The zipper for this pouch is black with a brushed silver pull. The inside of the front pocket is the same black/light grey chevron used through out the rest of the bags interior.

Check out the pictures attached, the colors are my interpretation of color :).

Function: Enough about fashion, lets get to function. Makes everything easy to access. I don’t spend time digging in the bottom of my purse.

Front zipper pocket: Accessed by simply unbuttoning the 3 buttons on the front side of the bag. I keep things in this pocket that I don’t need to access everyday (i.e. monthly feminine products, bobbie pins and hair ties incase I leave home without them, extra phone charger/cord).

Internal zipper pocket: I usually keep my larger wallet, my personal phone and keys in this section. Easy to access and keeps what I use most at my finger tips. In addition to my wallet my iPad Air 2 (with bulky cover) also fits nicely in this pocket. This pocket is PADDED.

Internal side one: There is side pocket with a zipper. The side pocket has enough of a fabric pouch that you can actually store stuff and use the pocket. I usually keep “emergency snacks” for the kiddo or myself when we are out and about. Even when the side pouch is full I can use the rest of the space on that side of the bag. I almost have 1 of these Amazon Elements Baby Wipes, Unscented, Flip-Top, 480 Count on this side of my purse plus my work phone and a make up bag filled with lipstick and my sunglasses.

Other internal side: There are three open pocket on the side of the bag. There are three pen slots in the middle and two large pockets (one on each side). I keep pens in the pen pocket. On pocket has 4 hot wheel cars in it. The other side I keep one bottle of Xlear Sinus Care Nasal Spray, 1.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 3). Again, everything is easy to access. Then I use the rest of the space on this side for the bag for a FULL smaller make up bag (full of essential oils), and whatever other things I need to “throw in my purse”.

The Strap: I am 5 feet, 6 inches tall. I think the strap is a perfect length for cross body. It rests nicely at my hip. I wear it comfortably to sporting events without having to take it off and put it on the arena floor. The strap is thicker the closer it gets to the bag and thinner on the part that would rest on your shoulder. It distributes the weight awesomely. I have had no back, neck or should discomfort from using this bag.

Overall, I am not sure I’d change anything on this bag. I really do love it and use it EVERYDAY. I can wear it out with the family and to work. It looks professional and casual while being functional, fashionable and family friendly.
